The author builds upon the work of Wundt and provides evidence refuting Wundt's premise that a submaximal stimulus to a motor nerve results in fewer fibers being stimulated. The author concludes that the 'reflex transmission time' of a normal spinal cord is typically in the range of 140-210 thousandths of a second and that this is determined by the time taken for the impulse to traverse the synapses between the sensory and motor neurons in the cord.
