Pages are clean and unmarked. Binding is sound. ABOUT THIS BOOK: Until now, few primary texts on the Kabbalah have been available in English. Under the auspices of the Bronfman Library of Jewish Classics, this historic publicatin of Gates of Light allows readers to enter the hidden world of the Kabbalah and its profound and beautiful Biblical interpretation. This central text of Jewish mysticism was written in thirteenth-century Spain, where Kabbalah flourished. Considered to be the most articulate work on the mystical Kabbalah, Gates of Light provides a systematic and comprehensive explanation of the Names of God and their mystical applications. The Kabbalah presents a unique strategy for intimacy with the Creator and new insights into the Hebrew scriptures. In the Kabbalah, aspects of God emanate from the hierarchy of Ten Spheres interconnected by channels that may be disrupted or repaired through human activity.(Publisher).

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. 2nd Edition. In Hebrew. 232 pages. 205 x 160 mm. Shaar Ora, a work roughly contemporaneous with the publication of the Zohar, was written by the Spanish kabbalist Joseph Gikatilla towards the end of the 13th century. It has served countless generations of aspiring students as a systematic primer guide of Kabbalah, to the systematic study of the Sefiroth (Divine emanations) and their code names, with Malchuth (Kingdom) as the primary, and Keter (Crown) as the final Sefirah. It is an exposition of Kabbalistic symbolism and the designations of the Sephorith. Joseph Gikatilla (Chiquatilla) (1248- c.1325) was a disciple of the founder of the school of "Prophetic kabbalah," Abraham Abulafia, and a close colleague of Moses de Leon of Guadalajara (who publicized the Zohar). Gikatilla composed some of the most detailed, yet lucid, expositions of Kabblistic concepts. Indeed R. Chaim of Volozhin recommended it to his students as an important introduction to the arcane wisdom of Kabbalah. Gikatilla was the originator of the doctrine equating the infinite Ein Sof with the first of the Ten Sephiroth. Vinograd THESAURUS v. 2, page 10, Offenbach imprint number 13 (kabala). Very good modern full leather binding with raised bands and gilt lettering on spine. Remains of old marbled paper on the earlier binding are bound in. 116 leaves. Scan of the wrappers and of the leather boards is available upon request. This second edition is apparently much rarer than the first edition.

Añadir al carritoFirst edition. Three parts, small folio. Collation: [aleph-yud tet]4 [chi]2 (= 78 leaves); numerous errors in foliation, but text continuous and complete. Title in red and black, within woodcut historiated borders. Letterpress ornaments. Hebrew text in two columns. Modern two-tone leatherette. Trimmed tightly at top edge, with intermittent partial loss to headline and foliation number. Text moderately embrowned throughout (a few leaves more heavily so). Intermittent fine worm tracing in the inner text columns, resulting in some (mostly minor) loss in about one-half of the leaves. Fairly good copy. Editio princeps. The first printed edition of this detailed compendium of kabbalistic exegetical techniques involving numerology and word-play, and first extant work by Joseph ben Avraham Gikatilla, a "Spanish kabbalist whose works exerted a profound and permanent influence on kabbalism" (EJ). Born in Medinaceli, Castile, Gikatilla lived for many years in Segovia. "Between 1272 and 1274 he studied under Abraham Abulafia, who praises him as his most successful pupil His first extant work, Ginnat Egoz (1615), written in 1274, is an introduction to the mystic symbolism of the alphabet, vowel points, and the Divine Names. The title derives from the initial letters of the of the kabbalistic elements gematria ("numerology"), notarikon ("acrostics"), temurah ("permutation"). In common with his mentor, Gikatilla also links this mystic lore with the system practiced by Maimonides. This work makes no suggestion of the theosophical doctrine of Sefirot or "spheres" later adopted by Gikatilla." With respect to Christian students of the Kabbalah, Blau notes: "[t]he works of Gikatilia, Recanati's Bible commentary, and the Book of Formation practically sum up the knowledge of the [Christian] interpreters." Gikatilla's influence is clearly evidenced in the researches of the Roman Catholic cardinal and humanist litterateur, Egidio da Viterbo (1469-1532) A gifted student of Hebrew and Aramaic, Viterbo was a noted devotée of Christian Kabbalah; among the surviving translations he commissioned or did himself is a version of the present work (Brach). Approbations: Isaiah ben Abraham Horwitz of Frankfurt, known as the "Shelah ha-Kadosh," whose approbations were given to very few books; Jacob ben Asher Aaron of Friedburg; Moses ben Menachem Bacharach of Frankfurt. Annotations: Old Hebrew entries at the title (one of which has been inked out). J. L. Blau, The Christian Interpretation of the Cabala in the Renaissance, p.19; G.-P.
