Gérard Geldenhauer, humaniste, théologien et historien a d'abord été le secrétaire de l'évêque d'Utrecht. Il rejoint les rangs de la Réforme en 1525. Jusqu'à cette date, il a considéré Érasme comme son ami et son guide spirituel. En 1529, pour servir la cause de la Réforme, il écrit un pamphlet, « Epistola Erasmi », qu'il attribue faussement à Érasme et dans lequel celui ci semble défendre le mouvement Luthérien. Érasme n'a pas été très content et ils sont devenus ennemis mortels. TRÈS BELLE EXEMPLAIRE.
