Early owner's calling card (Mr. Angus Wilton McLean) is paper-clipped onto the top of the front flyleaf. A sound copy with clean tex…t. Contains an illustration of the painting (page is foxed) with the tissue guard. Benjamin Rice Lacy (1854-1929) was the State Treasurer for North Carolina beginning in 1901. His father, Reverend Drury Lacy (1802-1884) had been a Presbyterian pastor in Raleigh before he become President of Davidson College (1855-1860). The elder Lacy accepted a number of positions during Reconstruction, and Benjamin Rice Lacy was raised without access to a college education. Nevertheless, Davidson offered him an honorary Doctor of Law degree in 1928.
