Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Black River Canal documents in images how a manmade river transformed a region. This upper New York State canal was an improbable engineering success. In 1825, DeWitt Clinton proposed construction of a canal that would link the Erie Canal at Rome with the Black River at Lyons Falls. The idea… was well received, but the obstacles were great. The canal would have to run uphill. In the end, the 35-mile overland canal required a record 109 locks to negotiate a rise and fall of 1,079 feet. Construction was authorized in 1836, and against all odds, the Black River Canal was fully operational in 1855. The canal brought a measure of prosperity to an isolated region of the state and promoted development of a wood products industry that continues to this day. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. Black Cotton Stockings; compilation and comments by Ron Ryder; photographic collaboration by Jim Fynmore; published by Country Books, Boonville, NY, by the Willard Press, 1954. From the blurb - Black Cotton Stockings is a picture book of a community that is…as typically American as the Christmas tree. Contained herein are 300 photographic masterpieces of nineteenth and early twentieth century life and the present. Part one of the book deals with life in the country from 1860 to 1920 - an era often spoken and written of but seldom captured in such realistic pictures. A majority are taken from glass plates uncovered after months of research. Part two, with many fine camera studies, shows the transformation to a modern and quiet community. The evolving parade of events has brought startling changes. This large format book is in near-fine condition, in a very good dust jacket that is now enclosed in a protective mylar wrap. Jim Fynmore (ilustrador).

The binding remains secure and tight with light edge rubbing; contents clean, bright, and complete. This exceptional research volume, compiled by antiquarian A. H. W. Fynmore of Eastbourne (descendant of Lt. Col. R. J. The Charles I and Sir Thomas Warner Ring Letters, with Antiquarian Clippings and Research Notes (c. 1909?1937) Description: Original bound Notes and Queries Tenth S…eries, Volume XI (January?June 1909) , later compiled and expanded by A. H. W. Fynmore , a descendant of Lt. Col. R. J. Fynmore , whose family was renowned for its meticulous antiquarian and genealogical research across England. This unique working volume continues the Fynmore tradition of scholarship through tipped-in correspondence, manuscript notes, and historical newspaper clippings ranging from the early 1900s to the late 1930s. Key Correspondence: Letter from George Younghusband , Keeper of the Jewel House, Tower of London (St Thomas's Tower letterhead, 13 Dec 1923), confirming his knowledge of the Thynne Ring and noting its sale at Christie's in 1913 for £6,700 to an American buyer. Letter from Charles Warner to A. H. W. Fynmore , dated 17 Dec 1923, discussing the authenticity of the Essex and Warner family rings, concluding that the ring sold in 1913 was not the 1625 gift from Charles I to Sir Thomas Warner. Together, these letters form a fascinating inquiry into the survival, attribution, and folklore surrounding Stuart-era relics , bridging the scholarly? | Offered by Booking33 ? rare, antiquarian & collectible books.
