Louisville, Kentucky's cemeteries starkly illustrate the city's socioeconomic divides, revealing a history of disparity through their headstones and monuments. The history-rich city of Louisville, Kentucky, offers stunning examples of haves and have-nots. Nowhere is this social chasm displayed more plainly than in its cemeteries. The 154 cemeteries within the city demonstrate how the socioeconomic factors that separate us in life follow us into death. A National Cemetery, including the ornate crypt of a United States President and his wife, stands in stark contrast to the neglected City Cemetery. Less than fifteen minutes away in a nearly 300-acre majestic cemetery, a barbed-wire-topped wall separates it from a deeply troubled and neglected 28-acre lot. Across the city, examples of the chasm that is Louisville is highlighted tombstone to tombstone. This photo series takes the reader on an exploration of the headstones, tombs, vaults, and monuments of Louisville's dead--persons of note, stillborn children, entire families, war veterans, and more, lost forever to time. Across these grave markers, one finds genuine pieces of art, erased by time and neglect. The many graveyards and cemeteries of this unique city serve as a portal, looking at the history of Kentucky. Explores the region's rich history through its fading graveyards, where memory battles time and nature.New England's story and history is best on display inside its burial grounds. Exploring the customs and cultures of the region's past helps showcase the importance of New England to America over the centuries. Presidents, "witches," enslaved peoples, and all of those in between can be found from Connecticut to Maine. The landscape of these states has shifted from a sprawling wooded space to lush and ample farmland and bustling cities. Inside the graveyards, cemeteries, and burial plots, war wages between memories and time. Now four centuries deep, these memorials are fighting to survive. The punishing weather of the area and urban sprawl combine to push these memorials back into the ground to be lost forever. Through photographs we can capture these cherished lost ones and give them the chance to live on in a new way. Across New England, marble, bronze, granite, wood, and other stones stand and fight to maintain the memory of those buried below them. Through Buried New England, those lost to time have the ability to live on as remembrances. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: new. Fredette, Tiffany Ilustrador. Hardcover. Henry the Horse is a beloved family pet. One day, his owners find they can no longer provide for him and turn to the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals (MSSPA) for help. Follow Henry the Horse's journey as he meets new friends, both animal and human, and finds a new forever home. The Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals located in Windham, Maine was established in 1872. The MSSPA's original mission, to protect the horses of Portland, has advanced its mission to help horses in need across the state of Maine and even New England. The MSSPA operates only on donations, taking no money for its shelter services or reimbursement from state or local municipalities. The MSSPA operates with a goal of rehabilitating the horses in their care and placing them in loving new homes. While working as a Humane Agent for the State of Maine, the author was introduced to this special and unique rescue organization. Since that initial meeting their animals and the mission that drives their care has driven the author to find ways to help aid in the work that the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals has been doing for over 150 years. The proceeds from the purchase of this book are donated to the MSSPA. Each book sold helps the many animals saved and rehomed by the rescue each year. To learn more about the MSSPA, it's mission, and ways to volunteer or donate visit their website: This item is printed on demand.
