Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. I'm to call this a first edition, why not. Once listed it will be the Only copy of this short (I'll call it) 'booklet' for sale on the Internet. You can see the covers in the photos. The booklet has five large cartoons (see photos) by the famous St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial cartoonist Daniel Robert Fitzpatrick. They are clearly a satiric commentary on the Republican Party at the time. They are dated July 8,9,10,11 an 13, 1952. As to condition, the front cover has sun fading at its margins. Otherwise, there isn't any wear. They are very clean. The binding is stapled and quite solid throughout. The inside covers are in excellent shape and very clean. That is the case for the five cartoons, and the last page which is a blank page, an end paper I suppose you could call it. It is very clean and free of wear. So are all the pages. No creasing. No markings. No attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. 'Daniel Robert Fitzpatrick was one of the most important editorial cartoonists in the United States. He was born in Superior, Wisconsin in 1891. As a young man, Fitzpatrick dropped out of high school. When his mother discovered that he had dropped out, she asked, "What do you think you're going to grow up to be?" Fitzpatrick retorted, "An editorial cartoonist." He studied anatomy and life drawing for two years at the Art Institute of Chicago before getting his first cartooning job at the Chicago Daily-News. In 1913 he took a job at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch where he remained until his retirement in 1958. Universally acknowledged as the dean of editorial cartoonists, "Fitz" strongly supported the rights of the underdog while attacking the conservative " establishment." Through cartoons with messages on equal rights for women and blacks, a clean environment, and concern for the militarization of America's post-World War II foreign policies, he gained the admiration and respect of scholars, journalists, statesmen, and regular newspaper readers worldwide. As Adolph Hitler rose to power in Germany during the 1930s, Fitzpatrick anticipated a second world war. In response, he created powerful cartoons that often depicted the threat of Hitler's Nazi war machine in the form of a giant swastika rolling across Europe. His sophisticated and forceful use of imagery helped turn American public opinion against Hitler and Nazi Germany. During his lengthy career, Fitzpatrick's cartoons were syndicated in thirty-five newspapers in the United States. He won the Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning in 1926 and 1955.'.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 658pg tome offering a history of communism, with dozens of contributors from a variety of world perspectives and time periods. An excellent overall copy. Binding is solid, square, sturdy, tight. Boards are clean and firm, slight bump to the bottom corner of the back board but no other wear of note. Interior is bright and clean and free of marks except for a small, neat, gift inscription on the front free endpaper, which also has a couple of fingerprint smudges. Else interior perfect and appears unread, which makes sense since its from the collection of an eminent marxist scholar who received this as a gift but had probably studied it all quite directly over the years. Dustjacket is mostly clean and attractive, with some light bumping and wear around the edges and with one significant horizontal scratch to the back panel. DJ now in brodart.
