Catalogue published in conjunction with the solo exhibition of Tadashi Kawamata held by six galleries across Japan in 1986. The catalogue features four large-scale installation projects created by the artist in New York and Chicago while he worked there as a member of P.S. 1 International Studio Program on a grant from the Asian Cultural Council. In the accompanying article, Tom Finkelpearl observes that while Kawamata's work is 'distinctly foreign, it contains a key element present in much "important" American sculpture, namely a dramatic and aggressive relationship with the viewer and the site. Although his works are organic in form, like vines growing on their host buildings, their scale is not that of mere ornament. Like Richard Serra's sculpture, Kawamata's work attacks its site declaring its own importance while subverting normal lines and symmetries.' Includes artist's biography. P.S.1 Project July-Sept 1985 / Limelight Project April-June1985 / Chicago Artworks July 1985 / After 'Tilted Arc' Nov.1985 / manque 5mm. angle haut de dos de couv. sinon très bon.

Hardcover. Condición: New. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Limited edition of 500 copies, signed and hand-numbered in black ink on the title page by Liao. Hardcover. Fine purple cloth-covered boards with title stamped in white on front cover, no dust jacket as issued; contained in a printed cardboard carrying case. Photographs by Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao. Essays by Anne Wilkes Tucker and Tom Finkelpearl. Unpaginated (100 pp.), with 47 four-color plates (including two 2-page spreads) exquisitely printed on heavy matte paper. 12 x 24 inches. New in publisher's packaging (opened only for signature). From the publisher: "One of the main arteries between Queens and Manhattan is the IRT 7 subway and rail line. Jeff Liao lives along this route, and takes the train every day. Over the course of many journeys, he has developed a connection with his fellow passengers, many of them fellow immigrants who, he believes, share his dream of a better life in America. Liao walked the length of the line and selected locations where there was evidence of the 7, even if there was no train in sight. These photographs show wide sweeps of the neighborhood with such an amazing depth and perspective that it is a surprise to learn that he does not use a panoramic camera. Instead, he makes several 8 x 10 negatives of the same scene and combines them digitally, taking up to 60 hours to complete one composition. His technique is as breathtaking as the pictures he produces, and is described in greater detail in the essays by Anne Wilkes Tucker and Tom Finkelpearl. Jeff Liao was born in Taiwan and moved to New York in 1999. Habitat 7 is Liao's first monograph." Signed by Author.
