Añadir al carritosewn PAPERBACK, cover price $2.50, very good, with attached dust-jacket. FIELDS, CURTIS P. The forgotten art of building a stone wall: an illustrated guide to dry wall construction. Dublin, N.H: Yankee, 1971, stated First Edition, 61pp., . Practical ways of how to build a tailored stone wall without the use of mortar. - The countless miles of New England stone walls bear testimony to hours of backbreaking toil by man and beast whose individual lives and circumstances are as remote from us as are the builders of the Great Pyramid. Although not as massive as the Pyramid nor as breathtaking as Stonehenge, Yankee walls have teased the imagination of more than one wayfarer and caused him to take stock of his own life in the presence of these monuments to persistence and hard work. Curtis P. Fields is such a man. Traveling abroad more than half a century ago, the author was first intrigued by rock formations and stone structures of the Old World. Since 1930 he has been pursuing this interest both in Connecticut and on his Vermont hillside farm. Today, at more than eighty, Mr. Fields is still reconstructing stone foundations and building new walls with a time-tested formula for precision and endurance. The author contends that it isn't so much brawn that is required as a knowledge of simple mechanics. This book demonstrates the fundamentals of laying a durable wall using flat stones that will withstand freezing and thawing. It shows how to move inert rocks safely, with little effort, how to employ simple tools to split stones, how to provide for proper drainage, to interlace parts, to construct gates and stiles, how to rebuild ancient walls that have been tumbled by neglect, and finally, how to level and cap a wall that will be both utilitarian and aesthetically satisfying.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Good+. First Edition. 61 Pages. Stated: First Edition. The dust jacket-like book cover is not price-clipped. Library of Congress Catalog Card No. 78-169930. This book is a very well written manual to the old (and somewhat forgotten) method of building a mortarless stone wall. The book's exterior has worn areas on the front cover's right and left edges and on the back cover there are folds that look like they came from a hot and moist cup of water being placed in the middle of it, and finally the dust cover-like front flap has a fold across its right top corner. The interior book, however, other than very lightly tanned pages, has no visible extraneous markings, detriments or distractions and thus all of its printing, diagrams and photographs are all in a very well-preserved and readable condition and the interior book remains tightly glued into its cover. If you order this essential handbook to the old method of building a stone wall without the use of mortar from us, we will carefully wrap it up in either foam or bubble wrap and then post it right away to you in a new padded envelope with both insurance and tracking on it.
