Añadir al carritoFirst Edition. Fine cloth copy in an equally fine dw. Particularly and surprisingly well-preserved; tight, bright, clean and especially sharp-cornered. Literally as new.; 208 pages; Description: 208 p. : col. ill. ; 30 cm. Subjects: Rugs --History (20th and 21st Century) --Catalogs. Summary: Although rugs woven in the classical style are still popular, it is the new wave of contemporary rug designers from the last ten years who are making news in the style and design magazines. Contemporary Rugs: Art and Design, by leading British rug designers Christopher Farr and Matthew Bourne, and Fiona Leslie of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, is the first book to explore the very best modern rug design from around the world. Some of the most renowned names in modern art and design, from Picasso to Frank Lloyd Wright, have at some point in their careers turned their hand to rug design. Today, designers such as Romeo Gigli, Kate Blee, Ou Baholyodin and Rifat Ozbek are pushing the medium to its limits with an often vibrant play of pattern and texture; these designers are creating both chic tone-setters for a room and unique works of art. The book begins by looking at the evolution of rug design over the last 100 years, before displaying the work of over 50 contemporary international designers. With an illustrated technical glossary and an invaluable international directory of sources, Contemporary Rugs: Art and Design provides simply the most encyclopaedic and authoritative reference available on the subject. Contemporary Rugs: Art and Design is a beautifully illustrated and timely presentation, indispensable to designers, collectors, fashion and art students, galleries, auction houses, architects, artists, and anyone interested in textile design. 2 Kg.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Today's medicine is spiritually deflated and morally adrift; this book explains why and offers an ethical framework to renew and guide practitioners in fulfilling their profession to heal. What is medicine and what is it for? What does it mean to be a good doctor? Answers to these questions are essential both to the practice of medicine and to understanding the moral norms that shape that practice. The Way of Medicine articulates and defends an account of medicine and medical ethics meant to challenge the reigning provider of services model, in which clinicians eschew any claim to know what is good for a patient and instead offer an array of "health care services" for the sake of the patient's subjective well-being. Against this trend, Farr Curlin and Christopher Tollefsen call for practitioners to recover what they call the Way of Medicine, which offers physicians both a path out of the provider of services model and also the moral resources necessary to resist the various political, institutional, and cultural forces that constantly push practitioners and patients into thinking of their relationship in terms of economic exchange. Curlin and Tollefsen offer an accessible account of the ancient ethical tradition from which contemporary medicine and bioethics has departed. Their investigation, drawing on the scholarship of Leon Kass, Alasdair MacIntyre, and John Finnis, leads them to explore the nature of medicine as a practice, health as the end of medicine, the doctor-patient relationship, the rule of double effect in medical practice, and a number of clinical ethical issues from the beginning of life to its end. In the final chapter, the authors take up debates about conscience in medicine, arguing that rather than pretending to not know what is good for patients, physicians should contend conscientiously for the patient's health and, in so doing, contend conscientiously for good medicine. The Way of Medicine is an intellectually serious yet accessible exploration of medical practice written for medical students, health care professionals, and students and scholars of bioethics and medical ethics.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Corpus Linguistics for Virtual Workplace Discourse provides a thorough and practical step-by-step guide to constructing and analysing a multi-modal corpus of virtual meetings. It draws from original data from video recordings of virtual meetings with a variety of participant profiles from various industries, alongside examples of images and transcriptions from this data to illustrate key points. This cutting-edge volume contextualises the field through previous corpus studies of interaction in a workplace context, as well as a description of various technology mediated interactions, culminating in video-mediated interaction, before outlining the cross-section of these two areas in describing the characteristics of virtual meetings. An overview of multi-modal corpus analysis provides examples and analysis of virtual meetings from a multi-modal perspective, demonstrating what is unique about virtual workplace discourse. The text concludes by presenting how multi-modal corpus analysis can aid understanding and delivery of virtual meetings through suggestions regarding meeting management. At various stages throughout the book, readers will engage with tasks that promote critical thinking at each phase of background research and data analysis. This will ensure that practical learning outcomes are achieved as well as broad insights gained into multi-modal corpus analysis of virtual meetings. This timely, prescient text is essential reading to students and researchers in corpus linguistics and any applied linguistics scholar interested in workplace communication, as well as valuable reading for any students or scholars in business communication.
