Auf humorvolle Weise werden kleine Begebenheiten, Fragen und Gedanken der Dreijährigen aus der Perspektive des Erwachsenen erzählt, wobei er die vom norddeutschen Dialekt geprägte und altersbedingte Ausdrucksweise wiedergibt. Mahrholz (Deutsche Literatur der Gegenwart) zählt ihn zu den Vertretern der Heimatkunstbewegung und führt aus: 'Als Gegenbeispiel der süddeutsch-schweizerischen Erzähler ist etwa O.
