Hardback. 19 × 12.5cm, 179pp. Published in 1944, at the height of the Second World War, Future of Man is a profound and urgent plea for a new global morality. Writing under the pseudonym Frank E. Warner, the author was actually Ernest Frankenstein, a distinguished international jurist who had been stripped of his citizenship and forced to flee Berlin in the late 1930s. Having witnessed the collapse of European legal and ethical structures firsthand, Frankenstein uses this work to propose a "Natural Ethics" - a framework designed to prevent the recurrence of totalitarianism. His central thesis argues for a society built on the dual pillars of maximum individual freedom and an equal regard for the life and freedom of others. Condition: Fair to poor. Whilst the book remains in good readable condition, the cloth binding is badly shaken, with rippling and grubby marks, and some wear to the hinges. However, the main body of text is in better condition and is complete.

Mai 1889 ebenda) war ein deutscher Verwaltungsjurist und Schriftsteller. Konrad Zitelmann war der Sohn des Justizrats, Notars und Generallandschaftssyndikus in Stettin Carl Wilhelm Otto Zitelmann. Er besuchte das Marienstiftsgymnasium in Stettin. Nach dem Abitur studierte er an der Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität, der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München und der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin Rechtswissenschaft. In Heidelberg wurde er Renonce des Corps Saxo-Borussia. 1834 wurde er Mitglied des Corps Borussia Bonn, 1835 des Corps Vandalia Rostock. Nach dem Studium war er Assessor bei der Generalkommission in Berlin, Stargard und Stettin. Nach vier Jahren als Kommissarius der Generalkommission in Stargard wurde er Regierungsrat in Stettin. 1857 schied er aus dem Staatsdienst aus und wurde Direktor der von ihm gegründeten Germania-Versicherung in Stettin. 1862 kehrte er in den Staatsdienst zurück. 1881 wurde er pensioniert. Neben seinen dienstlichen Aufgaben betätigte sich Zitelmann schriftstellerisch. Er veröffentlichte unter dem Pseudonym Konrad Ernst. Zitelmann war verheiratet mit Ida Edwine von der Marwitz. Aus der Ehe gingen acht Kinder hervor, darunter die Schriftstellerin Katharina Zitelmann und der Jurist Ernst Zitelmann. Der Schriftsteller Konrad Telmann war sein Neffe.

Written under the pseudonym E.B. Ashton, Ernst Basch offers a mid-1930s analysis of fascist theory and practice, completed in autumn 1936. A German-born writer and translator (later resident in the United States), Basch was married to Austrian author Hertha Pauli and translated major works by Karl Jaspers, including The Future of Germany. Though not incorporating the latest developments in Germany, Italy, and Spain, Basch notes that events there only confirm his conclusions. Featuring the fasces, the Roman emblem from which fascism takes its name, on its cover, the work is both a study of Fascism and a measured defence of democracy. A very good copy; jacket with a few nicks to corner and spine ends, a little rubbed to back cover but very handsome overall. Book.
