Issued without dustjacket. "Crime and the Man" is a 1939 book by American anthropologist Ernest Albert Hooton that presented his research on criminals. The book is a summary of his extensive and controversial study, which used anthropometric data to argue for the "general inferiority" of criminals, suggesting that they were biologically and genetically inferior. This theory and his methodology were widely criticized by other scholars, such as Robert Merton and Edwin Sutherland, for lacking scientific validity and a clear causal link between biological traits and criminal behavior.
