Flowers of the Field, the revised thirty-fifth edition of the influential botancial work, written by British botanist C.A. Johns and edited by fellow botanist George Simonds Boulger. Published in 1925, first published in 1851. In the publisher's original blue cloth, with a colour frontispiece, and all sixty-three other colour plates from drawings by Cornish botanical illustrator Emily Stackhouse, as well as those by Johns's sisters. Collated complete. A comprehensive guide describing the great variety of plants found in fields across England using the Linnean system, often considered the 'bible of the amateur botanist' for its educational appeal. Boulger's revised edition updates the original, including revising the nomenclature following the Vienna International Botanical Congress of 1905. In the publisher's original blue cloth. Externally, mostly smart, with a couple of faint marks to boards. Fading to the spine. Slight edgewear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Age toning to end papers, with a grazed spot to top edge of rear pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with minimal age toning. Very Good. Various [inc.
