Not in Hubin who lists six titles by the author. Not in BL; Bishopsgate Institute only on Copac. From the title: 'In all the annals of crime there is probably no more tragic figure than that of Jack Sheppard, who met his death on the scaffold when he was scarcely more than a boy. Of a naturally good disposition, he was lured into ways of crime by the influence of the scoundrel Jonathan Wild, and in his short but meteoric career he never entirely lost the sympathy and even admiration of his contemporaries'.

Añadir al carritoFirst edition, scarce in the sensationalist jacket, of this work on the possible uses of paranormal and psychic techniques for detectives. Woodhall was a former police officer and Jack the Ripper investigator; this work has a chapter on clairvoyance in the Ripper case. This copy is from the crime library of Patricia Cornwell, whose books Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper - Case Closed (2002) and Ripper: The Secret Life of Walter Sickert (2017) investigated the identify of the murderer. Woodhall (1886-1941) served in various specialist departments of the Metropolitan Police, including the Special Political Branch and MI5, and provided protective surveillance for Edward VII, George V, Winston Churchill, and Lloyd George. Alongside his policing career, Woodhall wrote over 40 true crime novels and founded a private detective agency. Octavo. Portrait frontispiece, 14 plates. Original blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front cover framed in blind. With pictorial dust jacket. Spine ends bumped, covers marked, edges and outer leaves foxed; jacket price-clipped, extremities chipped and creased, loss to spine ends and lower corner of rear panel, panels soiled: a very good copy in like jacket.
