Añadir al carritoW J Stokoe, Thomas Baddeley Ilustrador. These books are classified as Near Fine. All four volumes are in similar condition, with lightly speckled foxing confined to the page edges; the internal pages remain clean and unaffected. Each book's inside covers and endpapers display an oval vignette of blooms appropriate to the subject, framed by a white border and set against a hessian-style sepia background, repeated on the rear endpapers. The corners are rounded at head and tail, with only occasional light bumping. Series I-III are bound in dark maroon leatherette with a black border to the front cover. Each bears the series title and a central gilt motif of a plant or insect, with the book title and author's name in black capitals. The spines repeat this information in black, including the number of coloured plates contained within. The accompanying Handy Guide is bound in a mid tan shade, designed in line with the series volumes so that it complements the set while remaining distinct. ________________________________________ We provide at least two images for every book or map, but these volumes have been bound in such a way that they can be opened flat without strain to the spine. This allows us to scan and share a greater number of plates, both in colour and black and white, so you can see the quality and detail for yourself. All images are taken directly from the books in our possession; we never use stock photographs, except in the rare instance where a volume is awaiting scanning. This ensures that what you see is precisely what you will receive." ________________________________________ Series One The first volume in the Wayside and Woodland series presents 127 finely executed colour plates with 294 descriptive entries, arranged to highlight seven distinct colour shades of wild plants. Issued as a new edition in 1938 and reprinted through the war years of 1941, 1943, and 1944, it remains a cornerstone reference for identifying Britain's flora. The careful pairing of illustration and text makes it both a practical field companion and a richly visual record of botanical study. Its enduring popularity reflects the clarity of its design and the charm of its period style, making it a highly desirable volume for naturalists and collectors alike. Series Two Building on the success of the first, Series Two expands the scope with 130 colour plates and 350 detailed descriptions. Issued in 1941, it continues the tradition of accessible yet authoritative guidance to wild plants, arranged for ease of recognition in the field. The illustrations are vivid and precise, capturing seasonal variety and subtle distinctions between species. Collectors value this volume for its continuity of design and its role in completing the early sequence of the series. Series Three This third instalment broadens the approach with 64 colour plates, 87 photographic reproductions, and 119 text illustrations, offering a more varied visual record of plants and habitats. The integration of photography alongside traditional plates reflects the evolving methods of natural history publishing in the mid twentieth century. It provides both scientific accuracy and aesthetic appeal, making it a distinctive complement to the earlier volumes and an essential continuation of the set. Life of the Wayside & Woodland The Handy Guide, titled Life of the Wayside & Woodland, serves as a companion to the main series. It contains 128 illustrations from photographs, 40 of them in colour, presenting a lively survey of plants, insects, and habitats. Designed in a mid tan binding to harmonise with the maroon volumes, it offers a more general introduction while retaining the visual richness that defines the series. Collectors prize it for completing the quartet and enhancing the set's coherence. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Please note that free shipping applies to UK orders only.
