Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No DJ. Gorey, Edward Ilustrador. First Thus. A scarce title in the tertiary Edward Gorey collectible canon, this is a collection of 33 "tales of imagination that every child should know, because every child will enjoy them," including stories by Shirley Jackson, James Thurber, Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe, H. G. Wells, Saki, Frank Stockton, & more. From the Looking Glass Library, Gorey did the DJ (missing), cover art, & internal title page illustrations for each story (though he is nowhere attributed [Toledano C1a]). Hardcover 12mo has paper-covered boards decorated & lettered in tones of red, pink, brown, black & white. Condition is Good: internally, completely clean, with pages showing age-appropriate tanning, but unmarked. The binding is strong & straight & hinges intact. However, the paper covering the spine is torn along both joints, has many chips, & is missing a 2" section at head of spine. All corners bumped with paper loss, exposing underlying boards. But you need this if you're a Gorey completist! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.

Añadir al carritoHardback. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. Edward Gorey Ilustrador. First Edition. Leavitt, Hart Day (editor) (Edward Gorey, illustrator). The Looking Glass Book of Stories. New York: Looking Glass Library, Distributed by Random House, [1960]. First edition. Octavo, 510 pp. Original pictorial boards with wraparound decorative dust jacket replicating the same design (by Edward Gorey). Gift inscription dated 1962 on front free endpaper. A fine copy in very good jacket with minor creasing near top of spine panel and one short tear near top of rear panel. Overall, the book presents nicely. #3445. $150. An anthology of 33 "imaginative tales" ostensibly aimed at children, though all can be (and have been) appreciated by adults. The material is of high quality and most could be categorized as fantastic in one way or another. Authors include James Thurber, John Collier, Robert M. Coates, Saki, Oscar Wilde, Stephen Vincent Benét, Mark Twain, Frank Stockton, Fitz-James O'Brien, Poe, Chekov, Conrad Aiken, Robert Louis Stevenson, H. G. Wells and Shirley Jackson. The collection could have been just as plausibly marketed as it stands to an adult market. The Looking Glass Library, of which this was the 16th title, was aimed at parents buying books for adolescent children. A publisher's note at the rear mentions Edward Gorey among the three "publishers" of this branding effort, whose previous titles are listed. Again, many if not most of these other titles would appear to discerning adult readers today.
