From an obituary posted on-line: "Katie Louchheim was a former State Department official and a former vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. Although she never held elective office, her influence in politics was considerable, beginning in 1934 when she arrived in Washington with her husband, Walter, an investment counselor. He helped organize the Securities and Exchange Commission in the early days of Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. Mrs. Louchheim worked her way to become vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee from 1956 to 1960. Along the way, she held various appointed government posts. In World War II she served in the Office of Foreign Relief and Rehabilitation and helped form the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration. Under President John F. Kennedy she was named Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, at that time the highest job in the department ever held by a woman.".

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good+. Christmas 1922. Volume itself has dark green covers with sharp gilt lettering on the spine. The Lakeside Press emblem on the front cover and the gilt border on the front cover is very bright. The book itself has been protected in a clear archival quality for the more than two decades it has been in my possession. Opposite the half title page the beginning of some separation at the spine is apparent. The head and tail of the spine have only a slight touch of wear at the back cover of the book and only one corner of the work shows any wear. The top edge is gilded and is still rather bright. No bookplates or owners names or stamps. The folded map does not appear to have any toning but there is an very small extra fold at the end. A quite nice copy, that in my opinion, is in collectible condition, for one attempting to acquire a complete set of Lakeside Classics or for one who has a particular interest in this volume. Available for immediate shipment, carefully packed in a sturdy box.
