Añadir al carritoHard Back. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fiine. Eleventh Printing. 301 Pages. Horror is in the mind and of the darkness. Those who seek to indulge in nightmare will find more than enough here to set their pulses racing - satanic figures grope in the shadows, people long dead return to haunt the scenes of their lifetime, victims fly shrieking from a doom they cannot escape. Drawn from 200 years of short story writing, "Great Irish Tales of Horror" includes twenty-four of the most powerful examples of horror ever conceived. Many of them are all the more terrifying because the looming dread is understated or unseen: food for the imagination.

Añadir al carritoTrade Paperback. Condición: Fine. Second Printing. 193 Pages. There is the previous owner's name label on the front endpaper with date "Oct 2003". These collected myths of Indian tribes in California and the Southwest were first published in 1912 and are introduced in this Bison Book edition by Peter Iverson. Here are the Zuni, Pima, Paiute, Shastika, and Miwok stories of the creation of the universe, animals, and humans. They tell of good and evil, the entrance of death into the world, great floods and fire, and the origins of names. Also included are fables, rain songs, the Paiute song of the Ghost Dance, and legends of Yosemite Valley. We find here the Zuni legends of Corn Maidens and the Navajo tale of the boy who became a god. Coyote in his guises as trickster, benefactor, and dupe appears prominently in the myths of the Achomawis, Gallinomeros, Miwoks, Nishinams, Pimas, Ashochimis, Karoks, Paiutes, and Sias (Zia Pueblos). Here, too, are such creators and destroyers as Old Mole, Spider, Snake, Measuring Worm, Raven, and Macaw, and a host of anthropomorphized animals and natural forces.

Pages 20 thru 50 have very small dogears at the top corner. No other defects noted. Tight pages are free or marks. Illustrated with frontispiece, 2 plates, and 2 drawings. This is about the trials and tribulations of a Venetian shipping entrepreneur and his circle of friends. Shakespeare was writing to entertain an anti-Semitic audience with forced conversions and legalized theft. Shylock's twisted desire for vengeance in this play from the late 1590s is where he delivers his famous speech about the humanity of Jews: If you prick us, do we not bleed? But his ruin in Act IV is pitilessly celebrated all the same, by a group that includes Shylock's own daughter Jessica, a positively presented character who joins her Christian friends in calling her father the Jew. Contents: General Notice, Introduction, Life and Works of Shakespeare, Analysis of the Play, Critical Opinions, Shakespeare's Grammar and Versification, Plan of Study, The Merchant of Venice, Notes, and Questions and Topics for Study.
