Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Reprint. 12 pages, 144 pages, illustrated. Original printed pictorial boards. Edited by Robin Myers and Michael Harris, Fakes and Frauds gathers a series of scholarly essays tracing how deception has shaped the history of print and manuscript culture. The volume ranges widely from forged antiquar…ian pamphlets and fabricated provenance to manipulated maps, counterfeit imprints, and the subtle arts of bibliographic misdirection, showing how ingenuity, greed, and occasional mischief have long shadowed the book world. What gives the collection its force is the combination of forensic method and narrative curiosity. Contributors unpack the physical clues that betray a forgery, the motives behind notorious deceptions, and the institutional blind spots that allowed them to circulate. The result is both a cautionary survey and a celebration of bibliographical sleuthing: a reminder that every book carries the possibility of disguise, and that the history of print is inseparable from the history of those who sought to deceive it. Size: 14.5 x 21 cms. Category: Varied Books; Books on Books; New Arrivals. ISBN: 090679577X. ISBN/EAN: 9780906795774. Your purchase helps me study.Part of the Publishing Pathways Series. Reading, and the manifold signs of reading, have become one of the most dynamic areas of research in book history. The reader as consumer and owner, as well as participant in the construction of new meanings, is the subject of these original essays. Specialists in literature, art history and book history investigate the annotations, marginal marks, extra-illustration and other forms of evidence left by readers. Through an examination of the book as a physical object, the contributors provide a range of intriguing insights into the ways in which this internalized and ephemeral activity can be understood in the context of book-trade history. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. Limited Edition. Wakefield: Fleece Press, 1991. First printing of this edition. 156 pp w/index. Horizontal 8vo. Fine in printed paper-covered boards with cloth spine. Edited, with an Introduction and Notes by Robin Myers, and wood-engraved illustrations by John Lawrence. One of 250 copies, un-numbered…. Each copy has a signed print by Lawrence in a rear pocket. The sturdy slipcase is near fine with evidence of a common problem; tiny threads are teasing along the edges. This seems common with all copies I have seen. An attractive example of this small press. The original prospectus is loose laid in the front. Signed by Illustrator.
