Providing a text for the 'Spanish Story' are Froude's lectures on 'English Seamen in the Sixteenth Century', given when he was Regius Professor at Oxford, and his essay on Antonio Perez and the riddle of his sudden dismissal as Philip II's Secretary of State. A. L.
