Several remnant stubs still present for initial missing leaves which are at least a ffep (and perhaps a flyleaf) and pages 1-6 which includes the title/copyright leaf. First leaf present is pages 7-8 with former having "Notice to the Reader." Contemporary full tan cloth binding; soiling and staining to boards and spine; fraying and short tears at bumped spine ends with surface chips to cloth at bottom third; spine has impression from missing paper title label; some wear and tearing to cloth at bumped fore-edge board corners. Edges toned; varied foxing and toning throughout with some moisture stains mostly at fore-edge margins of some rear leaves; a few page corners creased. Pages 171-174 fractionally pulled but binding is still firm. Features 192 letters (numbered as I-CXCII) "selected, from several hundred, as most fit for publication" by Virginia statesman John Randolph to his nephew Theodore Bland Dudley written between January 31, 1806 to February 11, 1822. With unpaged six leaf (i.e. twelve pages) section at rear with advertisements for publisher Carey, Lea, & Blanchard. Despite lacking its title/copyright leaf, this book is easily attributed as the 1834 Philadelphia imprint of Carey, Lea & Blanchard as OCLC cites it as the only edition of the book.
