In 1959, Charles Ferguson provided a comprehensive diglossicview of bilingualism by building on the various domains which are essential in macro-analysis of the functional distributions within the speech communities (Ferguson, 1959). These communities are characterized two or more languages used in intra-societal communications. Diglossia is generally defined as a situation where two different language varieties are spoken with the same speech community (Fishman et al., 1982). On the other hand, bilingual diglossia is a situation where one language variety is used in writing while another one is used in speech. Today, diglossia is one of the most important elements in the study of societal multilingualism. Based on Ferguson's argument, diglossia can be described as a special kind of bilingualism where two co-existing linguistic codes that have different status in the society compete. Use of these language varieties relies on the circumstance (Crystal, 2010). Each the language variety must have a clearly defined role. For example, standard language mainly in formal contexts while a specific dialectal form is used in low functions such as family and social gatherings. Studies observed that the concept of diglossia can be observed in the case of language use in China. In support of this observation, the author reviewed the concepts diglossia, language maintenance, language shift and reversing language shift in general and in relation to a specific case of Inner Mongolia, China.

However, there are serious public health concerns associated with marijuana as some experts argued that these jurisdictions have not effectively regulated its use in a manner consistent with the international drug control treaties. In many cases, Subbaraman (2014) indicated that marijuana is being diverted for use in non-medicinal purposes. In most of these countries, poor regulation of medical cannabis programs is attributed to the low perception of risk among the policymakers and the members of the public as a whole.In the United Kingdom and several countries in Europe, marijuana is either totally banned or its use is heavily regulated. As a result, there have been increasing calls for the UK and the rest of Europe to follow the footsteps of Canada, the Netherlands, and a growing number of states in the United States where the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes has been legal for quite some time. In this regard, this essay evaluates whether the UK and the rest of Europe should legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes. This paper explored some of the positive and negative effects of marijuana on the people and the rest of the economy.

This presented a review of macro environment, competitive and SWOT analyses of the Singapore's retail industry to determine how Walmart Inc can successful enter the market. The review found that the strength of Singapore lies on its favorable business laws and regulations, business-friendly tax rates and high disposable incomes among Singaporeans. Singapore is also highly developed in terms of physical infrastructure and serves as one of the busiest air traffic and sea port hubs in the world. The high disposable income and economic freedom makes it hugely attractive for retail business like Walmart. Stable political climate and socio-cultural diversity also attracts new businesses to the country. However, the study found that corona virus pandemic and high labour and rental costs posed the biggest threats to Singapore retail industry. Nonetheless, the paper suggests adoption of franchising market entry strategy as the most appropriate. Franchising is the most appropriate approach due to low costs and reduced risks of failure. To be successful, the retailer must select a franchisee of good reputation and with a shared vision. Lastly, Walmart can select a franchisee and prepare to enter Singapore market after country opens up for business in the aftermath of the current pandemic.

Nevertheless, Nike remains to be the market leader in sport footwear and apparel industry. To challenge Nike's position, Adidas must strive to penetrate Nike main market of North America, develop new markets in the emerging economies and while putting more investments in product and process innovations.
