Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Very Good. Have you ever been led by someone who cared for you like family, and dared you to achieve more than you ever thought possible for yourself, your organization, and even society? Award-winning author of Hostage at the Table, George Kohlrieser, along withhisco-authors Susan Goldsworthy and Duncan Coombe, explain how becoming a secure base leader releases extraordinary potential in others. Part of the Warren Bennis leadership series Care to Dare shows you how to become a Secure Base Leader so that you release your followers from the fears that get in the way of their performance. It shows you how you can unleash astonishing potential by building the trust, delivering the change, and inspiring the focus that underpins sustainable high performance. Fromextensive interviews with executives from all over the world, as well as from surveys with more than a thousand executives, the book reveals the nine characteristics that Secure Base Leaders display on a daily basis. The research shows that a primary difference between a successful leader and a failed leader is the presence or absence of secure bases in his or her life. Care to Dare will take you on a journey where you will discover your own secure bases, past and present, and determine how you can be a secure base for other people in your life at work and at home. Añadir al carritoFrom the Foreword: "The Nepal Gender and Social Exclusion Assessment (GSEA) brings together the main findings of a multi-year study on social exclusion and how it has affected development outcomes in Nepal. It examines gender, caste and ethnicity as three intertwined institutions or "rules of the game" that determine individual and group access to assets, capabilities and voice based on socially defined identity. The GSEA study, entitled Unequal Citizens, attempts to understand how these institutions affect the people and suggests ways to overcome the obstacles. I am confident that the GSEA will be very useful in translating Nepal's development vision into actions. Some of the answers lie in the interventions recommended by the report, which also provide a sound basis for development partners to continue supporting Nepal's on- going efforts towards building a fair, equitable and inclusive society." Jointly published by The World Bank Nepal and DFID UK in Nepal. 2006. First edition. Paperback - out of print. Water damage including warped pages and discoloration. Some wear on the cover lower right corner, and the edge of the spine. Otherwise in good condition - the spine is intact and binding is tight. All lettering is crisp and legible. No writing or creases on the pages. 112 pages including illustrations. Please review the listing photos as they form an important part of the description. The current owner, anthropologist and writer Don Messerschmidt, PhD, is known for his research and writings in and on the Himalayas. He has published books and articles internationally since the 1960s when he first lived in Nepal as an American Peace Corps volunteer. He went on to enhance his understanding of Himalayan peoples and places as an independent researcher and on numerous consultancies. For over a half-century, he has been engaged in field studies, university professorships, and writing about the rich cultures of Bhutan, Nepal, North India, and Tibet. Along the way, he amassed an extensive library of Himalayan studies and has written several of his own, including two prize-winners. He has also been an editor for two regional magazines and has been called upon to pen chapters, promotional, and forewords for Himalayan-oriented publications.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Very Good. In 2008 it was believed that HIV/AIDS was without doubt the worst epidemic to hit humankind since the Black Death. The first case was identified in 1981; by 2004 it was estimated that about 40 million people were living with the disease, and about 20 million had died. Yet the outlook today is a little brighter. Although HIV/ AIDS continues to be a pressing public health issue the epidemic has stabilised globally, and it has become evident it is not, nor will it be, a global issue. The worst affected regions are southern and eastern Africa. Elsewhere, HIV is found in specific, usually, marginalised populations, for example intravenous drug users in Russia. Although there still remains no cure for HIV, there have been unprecedented breakthroughs in understanding the disease and developing drugs. Access to treatment over the last ten years has turned AIDS into a chronic disease, although it is still a challenge to make antiviral treatment available to all that require it. We also have new evidence that treatment greatly reduces infectivity, and this has led to the movement of 'Treatment as Prevention'. In this Very Short Introduction Alan Whiteside provides an introduction to AIDS, tackling the science, the international and local politics, the demographics, and the devastating consequences of the disease. He looks at the problems a developing international 'AIDS fatigue' poses to funding for sufferers, but also shows how domestic resources are increasingly being mobilised, despite the stabilisation of international funding. Finally Whiteside considers how the need to understand and change our behaviour has caused us to reassess what it means to be human and how we should operate in the globalizing world. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Very Good. Co-written by a lecturer and a practitioner, Banfield & Kay provide academic and practical insights that convey the reality of HRM. Designed specifically for students taking their first introductory module in human resource management, this textbook combines the academic and practitioner perspectives to produce a balanced introduction to the subject. This approach explores how HRM is actually practised and experienced in the workplace, which overcomes the idealistic and partial insights of many textbooks. By taking a truly holistic approach to the subject, this text avoids the presentation of HRM as a separate management function, and instead presents HR processes and challenges as an integral part of any business. The conversational writing style adopted by the authors is ideal for students, and has been highly praised for engaging the reader. The book is divided into 4 parts: The Foundations of HRM (Chapters 1- 3) is followed by Operational Challenges (Chapters 4-8). Key HRM Processes are then examined (Chapters 9-12) before the final part presents three real-life case study chapters (Chapters 12- 15), drawing on the topics covered earlier in the text such as planning, recruitment, selection, redundancy, learning, and training. Within each chapter, care has been taken to encourage students to think critically about the issues. A huge number of real life examples and case studies are included throughout, presenting the reader with opportunities to understand the theory in practice, and bringing the topics to life. A wide range of boxed learning features and a user-friendly writing style ensures the content is fully understood and encourages students to actively engage with the issues raised. The second edition features a new chapter on strategic human resource management. The authors have also undertaken interviews with practitioners from a range of organizations. These range from large public- and private-sector organizations such as Nottingham Trent University and Calor Gas to smaller companies including International Information Systems in Bahrain. These have been written up into a new 'Practitioner Insight' feature in every chapter, providing a reflection on practice from twelve different individuals. In addition a 'Research Insight' feature has been introduced, summarising key papers at relevant points within the chapter and encouraging students to extend their reading by following up these references. Online Resource Centre For lecturers: - Test Bank - PowerPoint Lecture Slides - Seminar Activities - Answers to Case Study Questions - Discussion Questions and Suggested Answers - Essay Questions and Suggested Answers - Detailed guide to using case study chapters in teaching (NEW) For students: 1. Additional Case Study Material - the story continued. 2. Multiple Choice Questions with feedback 3. Web links 4. Chapter on health and safety 5. Extension material on key topics (NEW). The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
