This is the original South African edition, soon banned in South Africa, of the author's exposé of the government policy of enforced removals, that was later published abroad by Penguin Books. It has a foreword by Nadine Gordimer. It was published by the Christian Institute of South Africa, a body that was itself banned in the 1970s. "At the centre of opposition to the forced removals imposed throughout South Africa by the apartheid regime was Cosmas Desmond, who gave himself to the task of documenting and exposing them. A veteran VW Beetle was bought and he disappeared down dirt roads and beyond into roadless rural areas bearing previously unrecognised names such as Mondlo, Mdantsane, Sada, Ilinge, Dimbaza, Zwelitsha, Botshabelo, Alcockspruit, Waschbank, KwaNgema and Driefontein.
