paperback. Condición: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

Stapled Wraps. Condición: Fair. The cover is detached from the body of the book. It is damaged where the staples once stood, it is split half way up its length and has loss to the lower outer edge. The back ofthe cover is lightly foxed and has a stain on its head. The pages are tanned and the lower outer edge brittle, and finally the last page has a 5 cm closed tear running vertically from the tail, as well as two short, closed tears also on the tail. I haven't attempted to repair any of these faults, prefering to leave it to to steadier hands. For all its faults and fragility, it should last another 70 years if treated with respect. pages, with a preface by Malcolm Salmon. Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. Presumed first edition (no direct edition/printing statement provided). 60, [4] pages plus covers. Staple-bound paperback booklet: H 22.75cm x L 15.25cm. Tan paper covers with some toning and slight foxing/soiling. Foxing to text block edges; interior foxing throughout but strongest on initial and rear leaves; past owner's personal blind-stamp on first two leaves along with his name/address ink stamp on front cover's blank verso, on pages 1 and 35, and again on rear cover's blank recto; same owner's ink signature also on front cover verso. No publishing date is specified but the booklet's text notes the party's nomination acceptances at their Houston convention on August 11, 1948 so presumably the booklet was published shortly thereafter. Evidently a rather scarce booklet as OCLC locates copies at only seven member institutions. The booklet proffers the platform of the bigoted segregationist Dixiecrat stoking WWII and communist fear via Stalin, Mussolini, and Hitler, as well as the usual gripes of federal government interference plus other racist and historical drivel. The ticket was comprised of South Carolina governor Strom Thurmond for president, Mississippi governor Fielding Lewis Wright for vice president, and completing the spiteful triumvirate, was future Alabama governor George C. Wallace who is cited as the campaign committee's treasurer on page 6. Thurmond, of course, would go on to befoul the United States Senate from 1954 to 2003 whereas Governor Wright's lamentations were silenced by his passing in 1956. {Shelf-PB-Box90}.…

With Annex ("Excerpts from applicable domestic and international standards") and Appendices to Part V: (1) "Communities in Kosovo listed alphabetically by their Serbian name" and (2) "Communities in Kosovo listed alphabetically by their Albanian name". 433 pages. From back cover: The OSCE Kosovo Verification Mission (OSCE-KVM) was created in October 1998 as part of the international response to events in Kosovo. Recognizing that the Kosovo crisis was in large part a human rights crisis, the mission had a mandate to monitor, investigate and document allegations of human rights violations committed by all parties to the conflict. By the time the OSCE-KVM stood down on 9 June 1999, its Human Rights Division had ammassed hundreds of in-country reports, and had taken statements from nearly 2,8000 refugees. . It looks at the specific impact of those violations on different groups in Kosovo society. It also gives a geographical human rights "map", describing events in hundreds of towns and villages through Kosovo. …

Trade paperback. Presumed first edition/first printing. vxii, 433 p. Includes: illustrations, maps. Notes. The OSCE Kosovo Verification Mission ammased hundreds of in country reports and had taken statements from nearly 2, 800 refugees. This report presents a comprehensive analysis of the human rights findings of the OSCE-KVM. From Wikipedia: "The Kosovo Verification Mission (KVM) was an OSCE mission to verify that Serb forces were complying with the October Agreement to end atrocities in Kosovo, withdraw armed forces from Kosovo, and abide by a ceasefire. The KVM's job was to monitor parties' compliance with the agreement, to report any breaches to the OSCE, and to help affected civilians in Kosovo. Other requirements included: To report on roadblocks; To oversee elections; To ensure that independent and fair police service was set up. United States diplomat William Walker was appointed head of the mission; he was relatively senior, reflecting the importance that NATO put on a peaceful settlement. His deputy was Gabriel Keller. Despite being much larger and more complex than any previous OSCE mission, the KVM was put together relatively quickly; parts of the team arrived in Kosovo a month after the 16 October agreement. The KVM was divided into five regions, with a headquarters in Pristina. Immediately after the Agreement, neither side adhered completely to the ceasefire; Serb forces continued to shoot at civilians, and there were sporadic KLA attacks on security forces. When a KVM team arrived at the scene of the Racak massacre, they found "36 bodies 23 of which were lying in a ditch". Ambassador Walker called me after he had been on the hillside. In fact, if my memory's correct, he called me from a cell phone from the village to describe it. His voice was shaking, saying, "I was the ambassador in El Salvador, and this is the worst thing I've ever seen, " describing how the people had been herded up the hill, their throats slit, with bullets in their heads. He said he was about to call it a crime against humanity. Richard Holbrooke In March 1999, there was an increase in ceasefire violations by both sides; as risks increased, it was decided to withdraw the KVM to Ohrid in Macedonia. Serb forces' reaction to the withdrawal was "remarkably docile" and the KVM was downsized to 250 staff. Then, after the KVM had left, Serb forces began a campaign of killings, rapes, detentions, and deportations of the Kosovar Albanian population. Refugees fled to Albania, Macedonia, and Montenegro; many refugees had their documents destroyed. In April 1999, the OSCE decided that the KVM should help deal with the refugee chaos; 70 verifiers were sent to Tirana, where they helped coordinate disaster-response and interviewed refugees." Good. This copy may be missing some early pages, as after the title page the numbering starts with XI. No table of contents is present. The primary text of the report appears complete.…

Cloth. Condición: Near fine. First Edition. Octavo, 53pp, [1]. Printed wraps, bound along the spine with metal staples. Pamphlet is dated July 12, 1960. Faint dampstain to rear panel, impacting the last leaves of text. Housed in custom blue cloth folder, title on front panel in gilt over black morocco label. Includes a "Letter of Authenticity" from JSA Authentication. Pamphlet signed on the front cover: "I hope Pauline Anderson will read this document. Harry Truman." During the 1960 Democratic presidential primary, former President Harry S. Truman opposed John F. Kennedy's candidacy, arguing that Kennedy was too young, inexperienced, and overly dependent on his father's influence. Truman favored his fellow Missourian, Senator Stuart Symington, and privately encouraged his nomination. He even suggested that Kennedy would be better suited for the vice-presidency rather than the top of the ticket, advice Kennedy firmly rejected. After Kennedy won the nomination at the Los Angeles convention, Truman withheld enthusiasm and did not campaign actively for him, but he eventually offered formal support in the interest of party unity against Richard Nixon. From the collection of Pauline Anderson (1923-2005), the secretary to the "President John F. Kennedy for President Campaign" in Seattle in 1960. She was a lifelong democrat, who worked for the Democratic National Committee and the Adlai Stevenson for President Campaign.
