Pseudo-autobiography about Crockett's thrilling adventures and escapes, geographical and political information about Texas, and a narrative by a supposed eyewitness after his death. Worn but sound in light…brown cloth with remains of a barely legible spine label, viii, 216 pages preceded by four pages of publisher's ads, undetermined whether this edition included a frontis engraving, but there is none here and no evidence that there ever was one. Covers worn, spotted and with fraying to corners, spine ends and rear joing, hinges internally cracked but covers well attached, text block sound, front free endpaper neatly trimmed at bottom and top, pages age-toned and uniformly foxed but clean, old pencil notes on rear free endpaper, no names or other markings. Notes from 1974 laid in loosely at the front from a bookseller indicated that the stated sixth edition is probably the second edition. Hard Cover. Fair. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Ex-Sondley Library, Asheville, edgewear, leather scuffed/scraped, front inner hinge badly cracked (cover not loose), endpapers toned, scattered foxing and light wrinkling els…e good to very good condition. On the front blank is a pencil note dated 1923 from F.A. Sondley, a lawyer and historian who bequeathed his collection of 45,000 books upon his death in 1931 to the Asheville Library. The came with stipulations like cannot be divided up, only "well conducted white people" could have access. It was not until 1961 that the library system was integrated. Much later, in 1986, the library was legally allowed to sell of 20,000 books that were duplicates or not related to local history, a portion of the sale went to maintenance and preservation. SCARCE TITLE. FIRST EDITION.
