Soft cover. Condición: Fine. 4th Edition. 4th ed ; 80 pages : illustrations ; 28 cm OCLC 42370499 ; photographic stiff paper wrappers ; February 22-24, 1991 ; Founded in 1988 by author, collector, and former high school English teacher Bruce Johnson, the Arts & Crafts Conference and Antiques Show has been recognized for more than two decades for its dedication to the education of the Arts & Crafts collector. Each February, the National Arts and Crafts Conference brings to The Omni Grove Park Inn & Spa the foremost authorities, authors, dealers, publishers, speakers, and craftspersons from across the country-all assembled yearly in one historic hotel for one landmark weekend. New collectors learn more here in one weekend than they can in an entire year anywhere else. Experienced collectors keep returning to renew treasured friendships and increase their knowledge and appreciation for the Arts & Crafts movement. ;The historic Grove Park Inn, now owned by Omni, is a perfect Arts & Crafts destination. Its interiors a tribute to the Arts and Crafts era of design, this Asheville historic hotel attracted the affluent and middle class of the early 20th Century with its reputation as a house of healing and comfort amidst the Blue Ridge Mountains. This tradition continues today as its one of a kind subterranean spa, its gorgeous sunset terrace views, and comforting natural interiors attracts visitors from all over, including many U.S. Presidents. Seminars and craft shows take place in Arts & Crafts-movement hotspots around the country. The one not to miss is the largest: a three-day conference and simultaneous antiques and juried contemporary crafts and furnishings shows, held in the Blue Ridge Mountains at the Grove Park Inn. At the shows, over a hundred antiques vendors and contemporary craftspeople fill multiple rooms and line the corridors of one wing; you'll see furniture, pottery, textiles, metalwork and jewelry, lighting, fine art But what makes this conference so special is its focus on education-deep learning. Hands-on workshops cover such things as embroidery and printmaking. Lectures are offered, and small affinity groups meet (pottery collectors, say, or people researching native plants in Arts & Crafts-era gardens). Opportunities run almost around the clock. House tours and walking tours are arranged. The skylit subterranean spa-"43,000 square feet of peace and quiet"-has mineral pools, therapeutic waterfalls, a lap pool with underwater music, eucalyptus steam rooms, fireside lounges with healthy snack options . . . and a full complement of treatments including European facials, body wraps, and massage. Dealers not only show their wares (both old and new) but also participate as lecturers and small group discussion leaders, generously sharing their knowledge with attendees, who range from entry-level to mature collectors. ; Contents: Architecture of the Arts & Crafts Movement / Wilbert R Hasbrouck -- George Ohr: The mad potter of Biloxi / Dr. Eugene Hecht -- Walt Whitman: Poet for the American Arts & Crafts Movement / A.
