Trade Paperback. Condición: Near Fine. First Edition. 287 Pages. Bright interior text pages. This is a Novel about a side of the Civil War hardly heard about and is based on historical fact and family history passed down through the years. Unlike most novels this one isn't about President Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, a particular battle or General. What you get to know is about the life of the true hero's of the war. These hero's are the people that lived in the middle of it. They were also the ones that lost their way of life, their fathers, sons, possessions and their self-respect. The end of the war also brought the fight for rights of women and minorities. But it was the reconstruction period when the people of the south had to fight back for their place and dignity. This is a story of Ida Duncan's childhood friend and first husband Edgar Buchanan. This story begins three years before the war when Edgar is eleven. He becomes used to having people such as Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis attend functions at their place. Later he learns his parents played a big part in sending ex-slaves up north from their Virginia place to Canada. Then an unfortunate event happened after his father joined the Army. A Yankee soldier kills one of his best friends and he runs away from home to join the army as his father did. Though he contracts typhoid he survives and goes back to the area he grew up in and finds Ida waiting for him. It's at this point this brilliant story of the lives as they were lived throughout that era begins. It is an historical adventure and a romance all rolled into one. Steinlage, Ben - Cover Photograph (ilustrador).…

Mass market paperback. Condición: Good. [6], 345, [1] pages. Cover has some wear and soiling. Barry Mark Eisler (born 1964) is a best-selling American novelist. He is the author of two thriller series, the first featuring anti-hero John Rain, a half-Japanese, half-American former soldier turned freelance assassin, and a second featuring black operations soldier Ben Treven. Eisler also writes about politics and language on his blog Heart of the Matter, and at CHUD, Firedoglake, Huffington Post, Smirking Chimp, and Truthout. Eisler joined the CIA, where he held a covert position with the Directorate of Operations. In 1992, he resigned after becoming disillusioned. In 1994, he moved to the San Francisco area to work for a law firm's technology licensing division, then left to work in Japan for Matsushita. In 2003 he sold the rights to his debut novel, Rain Fall, the first of his series featuring John Rain. In March 2011, he walked away from a reported half million dollar advance from St. Martin's Press to go the self-publishing route pioneered by Joe Konrath and others. He then agreed to publish the seventh John Rain novel, The Detachment, under Amazon Publishing's Thomas & Mercer imprint. After terminating his previous publishing contracts and regaining his rights, Eisler changed the covers on several Treven books. In Silicon Valley, the eccentric inventor of a new encryption application is murdered in an apparent drug deal. In Istanbul, a cynical undercover operator receives a frantic call from his estranged brother, a patent lawyer who believes he is the next victim. And on the sun-drenched slopes of Sand Hill Road, Silicon Valley's nerve center of money and technology, old family hurts sting anew as two brothers who share nothing but blood and bitterness wage a desperate battle against a faceless enemy. Alex Treven has sacrificed everything to achieve his sole ambition: making partner in his high-tech law firm. But then the inventor of a technology Alex is banking on is murdered. and the patent examiner who reviewed it dies. and Alex himself narrowly escapes an attack in his own home. Off balance, out of ideas, and running out of time, he knows the one person who can help him is the last person he'd ever ask: his brother. Ben Treven is a Military Liaison Element, an elite undercover soldier paid to "find, fix, and finish" high-value targets in America's Global War on Terror. Disenchanted with what he sees as America's culture of denial and decadence, Ben lives his detached life in the shadows because the black ops world is all he really knowsâ"and because other than Alex, who he hasn't spoken to since their mother died, his family is long gone. But blood is thicker than water, and when he receives Alex's frantic call, Ben hurries to San Francisco to help him. Only then does Alex reveal that there's another player who knows of the technology: Sarah Hosseini, a young Iranian-American lawyer who Alex has long secretly desired. and who Ben immediately distrusts. As these three radically different people struggle to identify the forces attempting to silence them, Ben and Alex are forced to examine the events that drove them apartâ"even as Sarah's presence, and her own secret wants, deepens the fault line between them. Fault Line centers on a conspiracy that has spun out of the shadows and into the streets of America, a conspiracy that can be stopped only by three peopleâ"three people with different worldviews, different grievances, different motives. To survive the forces arrayed against them, they'll first have to survive each other. Ballantine Books Mass Market Edition [stated]. First printing [stated].
