Hardback. Condición: Fair. Defoe's "Tour Through the Whole island of Great Britain", first published in three volumes in 1724-26, is an account of 13 "circuits or journies" made by the renowned author of such books as "Robinson Crusoe" and "Moll Flanders". This abridged edition is also the first illustrated version. Defoe's famous text is now complemented by contemporary paintings, sketches, and engravings of places he visited, industrial processes, activities and events he described, and people he knew. Many of these illustrations are little known, and some have never before been reproduced. Defoe's "Tour" has been the most often-quoted source for early 18th century British social and economic history. It is also a very personal book, conveying a sense of "the romance of trade" as felt by an enthusiast at a time of rapid commercial expansion. Different from earlier (largely antiquarian) descriptions of Great Britain, it is based on more first hand knowledge, is better organized, and is written in a vigorous and subtly amusing style. An introduction to this edition outlines Defoe's life, locates the "Tour" among his other works, and reveals the extent of his involvement in the life of early 18th century Britain. Notes to the text and captions to the illustrations explain contemporary technical and industrial processes and historical allusions, identify people, and provide information on buildings and places.…

Paperback. Condición: New. Creation is Fallen: Unraveling the Mystery of Natural EvilWith foreword by Hans MaduemeStep into a profound exploration of one of Christianity's most challenging questions with Creation is Fallen: The Curse, Animal Suffering, and the Problem of Natural Evil by Ken P. Coulson. In this compelling and meticulously researched work, Coulson tackles the age-old dilemma: How can a good and omnipotent God allow such widespread suffering and death in the natural world?Drawing from both Scripture and science, Coulson examines the historical and theological roots of animal suffering, predation, and natural disasters. He traces the debate from the Church Fathers through to modern creationist and evolutionary thought, critically engaging with the most influential theodicies and defenses. With vivid real-world examples-from the parasitic cuckoo bird to the chilling realities of predation and extinction-Coulson brings the problem of natural evil into sharp focus.Unlike many books that gloss over biblical nuance or scientific detail, Creation is Fallen offers a rigorous, balanced approach. Coulson's expertise in both theology and science shines as he navigates complex questions about the Fall, the meaning of "very good" in Genesis, and the implications for Christian faith today.Whether you are a pastor, theologian, scientist, or thoughtful reader wrestling with the intersection of faith and the realities of the natural world, this book is an indispensable resource. Discover why understanding the fallen nature of creation is essential for a robust, honest, and hope-filled Christian worldview. …
