Corrothers was an African-American, born of mixed blood (his grandfather was part Native American and part Scotch-Irish) was raised and university educated in the mid-West, he was an amateur boxer, an author (wrote poetry and this collection of short stories - "The author thought poorly of them and regretted their publication" ), minister, and friend of James Whitcomb Riley, Paul Lawrence Dunbar and Frederick Douglass. Also prints the poem "Mammy's Growin' Ole," an early poem by African-American poet James D. Corrothers, preceding his first book. Uncommon.
