Cover Art: Corbis Ilustrador. 1st Edition. © 2007: 3rd in the 'Time's Tapestry' series of books. 1st edition, 1st printing:- Synopsis: As William the Conqueror's men attempt to stamp out the flames of rebellion to bring an end to the Murdrum, the furtive slaughter, of the guerilla campaign against the occupying forces a prophecy is spoken by a bedraggled woman in a shattered village. A prophecy that speaks of terrifying engines of war, engines of God's vengeance that will be unleashed in a war between civilizations. As the flame of the Crusades burns back and forth across Outremer, as the Mediterranean becomes a crucible for a seemingly endlessly war between Islam and Christianity, as even in Spain where Moor and Christian had lived side by side the years bring savage sieges, people die and families are torn apart to keep the prophecy alive. Will the engines finally win the war for Christianity or Islam? Or will all be swept away by the rumoured might of the Mongols that have already swept through Asia? Or does the future lie not to the East, but to the West, across the great sea. And while the scholars debate the true nature of the prophecy, and Kings and Emirs, all the time the engineers are working to build the engines of God. Where have the plans for these terrifying weapons of war come from? What does the Weaver of Time's Tapestry intend?:- Review(s): "Strong imagination and a capacity for awe abound in the work of Stephen Baxter. A truly Wellsian vision" - The Times Literary Supplement:- (original cost £18.99).

Jack Holmes is in love, but the man he loves never shares his bed. The other men Jack sleeps with never last long and he dallies with several women. He sees a shrink and practices extreme discretion about his gay adventures since the book begins in the 1960s, before gay liberation, and ends after the advent of AIDS in the 1980s. Jack's friend, Will Wright, comes from old stock, has aspirations to be a writer, and like Jack works on the Northern Review, a staid cultural quarterly. Will is shy and lonely-and Jack introduces him to the beautiful, brittle young woman he will marry. Over the years Will discovers his sensuality and almost destroys his marriage in doing so. Towards the end of the 1970s Jack's and Will's lives merge as they both become accomplished libertines. Edmund Valentine White III (b.1940), is a gay American novelist, memoirist, playwright, biographer and an essayist on literary and social topics. Since 1999 he has been a professor at Princeton University.

Deputy District Attorney Samantha Kincaid walks into her office in Portland's Drug and Vice Division one Monday morning to find three police officers waiting for her. A thirteen year old girl has been brutally attacked and left for dead on the city's outskirts. Given the lack of evidence, most lawyers would settle for an assault charge, Samantha unnerved by the viciousness of the crime, decides to go for attempted murder. But as she prepares for the trial, she uncovers a dangerous trail leading to an earlier high profile death penalty case, a prostitution ring of underage girls, and a possible serial killer. And she finds her judgement, not only in matters of the law but in her personal life, called into question. In Samantha Kincaid, Alafair Burke has created a complex, appealing character - a woman consumed by a sense of justice, who is tough enough to take on a man's world. Seamlessly moving between courtroom and criminal investigation, JUDGMENT CALLS reveals not only an insider's knowledge of the justice system but a fresh new voice in the world of crime writing, and the start of a great new series. When a young man falls into a quarry, it takes nine days to find the body. When rowdy hippies descend on the village, they're given nine days to leave. When an outspoken schoolmaster is kidnapped for nine days, he stays eerily quiet after his release. Now Albert Campion has come to town, meaning to investigate all this strangeness. But whoever is behind the unusual goings on quickly makes it very clear that his nosing around is not welcome. Undeterred by threats, Campion is determined to expose the criminal masterminds hiding in this sleepy village. When Allinham's husband Philip Youngman Carter died in 1969, he left the Allingham archive to the Margery Allingham Society, crime writer Mike Ripley offered to complete the unfinished manuscript of 'Mr Campion's Farewell'. Quite a scarce book.

After a spell of homelessness, he finds a job in the kitchen of a posh restaurant, and a room in the house of an appealing Irishman who has also lost his family. Never mind that Lev must sleep in a bunk bed surrounded by plastic toys, he has found a friend and shelter. However constricted his life in England remains he compensates by daydreaming of home, by having an affair with a younger restaurant worker (and dodging the attentions of other women), and by trading gossip and ambitions via cell phone with his hilarious old friend Rudi who, dreaming of the wealthy West, lives largely for his battered Chevrolet. Homesickness dogs Lev, not only for nostalgic reasons, but because he doesn't belong, body or soul, to his new country but can he really go home again? Quite scarce signed. Signed by Author(s).

The remarkable life of the vivacious, clever and forgotten Kennedy sister, who charmed the English aristocracy and was almost erased from her family history. The favourite child of Joe Kennedy and favourite sister of Jack, Kick Kennedy was spirited, vivacious and legendary for her charm. When the Kenndys sailed to Britain in 1938 she was presented as a debutante amid the pre war social whirl of the British aristocracy. Here she met a shy, tall, handsome man called Billy, and, rebelling against family, faith, and country, soon married him. He was William Cavendish, heir to Chatsworth and the Duke of Devonshire, the most eligible bachelor in England. But their days of married bliss proved short, as war would bring tragedy and loss. Uncovering her spectacular life in full for the first time, Paula Byrne depicts a remarkable woman who bewitched the Churchills, Astors and Mitfords, and yet was almost erased from Kennedy family history.

Herodotus is known as the Father of History, but he was much more than that. He was also the world's first travel writer, a pioneering geographer, anthropologist, explorer, moralist, tireless investigative reporter and enlightened multiculturalist before the word existed. He was at once learned professor and tabloid journalist, with an unfailing eye for fabulous material to inform and amuse, to titillate, horrify and entertain. In his masterpiece the 'Histories', tall stories of dog headed men, gold digging ants and flying snakes jostle for space within a mesmerising narrative of the Persian Wars, from which Greece emerged triumphant in 500 BC to give birth to Western civilisation. Using the effervescent and profoundly modern Herodotus as his guiding light, Justin Marozzi takes the reader back to his world with eclectic travels to Greece, Turkey, Egypt and war torn Iraq. Quite a scarce book.

It presents itself to be the original diary of a young girl, Idilia Dubb aged seventeen, who disappeared whilst on holiday with her parents in the German Rhineland in 1851. After a lengthy search fails to find her, her parents return home. In 1860, workmen at Lahneck Castle discover her remains at the top of a tower. Lying next to her skeleton is a diary in which she has recorded the horrors of her final days, after a wooden staircase collapses, leaving her trapped at the top of the tower without food or water. Questions have been raised about the authenticity of the diary. English publishers Short Books published the diary as non fiction, but stated that its 'authenticity can never be entirely verified'. In a review of the English edition for 'The Spectator' Andrew Taylor wrote 'even the most credulous reader wouldn't get too far here without smelling several large rats', citing the use of foreshadowing devices, anachronistic language, and the action packed narrative. German historians have pointed out that there are many historical mistakes in the book. For example, a nearby church is described having two towers, but one of them had already collapsed in 1844, Dubb mentions hearing the noise of a train, although the railroad through the Rhine-Valley was not built until 1859. Interesting!
