The text block, like the book remains very clean and tight. There are several bumps to the board edges - one with the slightest of associated splits to the cloth. There are several light rub marks to the rear board. There is a 1cm closed tear to the head of the front endpaper - now expertly repaired. A lovely, clean, tight very well preserved copy.

Some wear to endpapers, back free endpaper half-detached, with 35mm tear in bottom edge. Front free endpaper also slightly detached from bottom edge. Pages are browned, many are foxed and stained, some torn. Occasional pencil marks. Stamp on front free endpaper. Collated complete.This is a thorough and colourfully illustrated collection of portraits depicting some of the most significant figures in the British Army, including Sir Charles William Wilson, Sir Frances Grenfell, General Babington, and Lord Kitchener of Khartoum. Its editor, Charles Napier Robinson, was an English journalist and general author who having achieved the rank of Commander during his service in the Royal Navy went on to write on naval matters. Quarter bound in morocco leather with gilt cloth to the boards. Externally, sound with minor handling marks including a damp stain, and rubbing, heaviest around the backstrip. A pair of minor indentations to the fore edge, in addition to some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities resulting in fractional loss to the cloth and leather. Hinges strained. Internally, firmly bound with pages that are generally very bright and clean, save for the odd spot or small handling mark, heavier to the outer leaves. Very Good. book.

Paper Wraps. Condición: Very Good Minus. A selection of this magazine journal comprising a total of 67 magazines running from January 1896 to July 1898 with 9 magazines missing. Also a special double number October 21st 1897 with white paper wraps. There are also the paper wraps for the first journal of Volume I published in December 1895 without the body of the magazine. The magazines are illustrated with numerous line drawings and numerous contemporary advertisements. Most of the magazines are in very good condition with complete wraps attached to the pages, though tanned. There is slight soiling to a the periphery of several magazines and several of the magazines have a few short tears from the edges of the paper wraps and creasing to the corners. 6 of the magazines have loose paper wraps with a couple having split spines. The paper wraps for volume one are separated and have several tears from the edges. A few small areas of loss to a few of the magazine wraps. On the whole the magazines are clean. Most of the staples are present but rusty. A good collection of this antiquarian magazine series.

Filled with stories of the British navy and fantastic full-page colour illustrations of battle-ships; an essential artifact for those interested in the history of the British navy or battle-ships in general. A small burn to first volume, however, text of leaves are unaffected. Some slight staining/yellowing to boards and leaves but inside is generally pleasant and colours on the illustrations vibrant.
