First edition, extremely rare account of the sumptuous celebrations for the consecration of the important Church of San Felipe de Neri in Cadiz in 1719, a cultural heritage site since 1907 and where the famous Cortes of Cadiz were held. This is an important record of the Baroque songs sang on the occasion and the poetry recited. The church was designed in classical style by Blas Díaz and building began in 1685. The celebrations were centered around the preaching of 8 sermons by the most famous preachers of the moment. These were accompanied by numerous recitations and songs some of which were distributed in printed form and are recorded here. The lavish processions held around the church and ephemeral architecture which was erected inside and outside the church are described. The architectural details of the church are also described as well as the sculptures and paintings. This is particularly interesting because it provides a record of the changes made to the original construction in the restoration which took place after the damage which had occurred in the earthquake of 1755. Extremely rare, we couldn't trace copies in the United States according to OCLC; we are only able to locate copies at the Universidad de Sevilla and BNM. Aguilar Piñal, 3724.
