    Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. [pub. c.1840] published for the author; Engraved frontis and two vignettes, to title and final pages, both after Hablot K. Browne ("Phiz"). Small 8vo. Publisher's original olive green cloth, printed paper label to front with decorative border, priced at two shillings and sixpence, yellow endpapers and publisher's catalogue to rear, general wear and rubbing, with evidence of liquid staining (see photo), this has become a brown stain that affects the bottom of all the leaves, in spite of this the text is largely unaffected, a couple of small creases to page corners, a little weakness to front and rear hinges, else a sound example; an early reprinting of this early piece of Dickensiana - the original being published by Chapman & Hall in 1838 - a response to Edward Caswall ("Quiz")'s "Sketches of Young Ladies" published the previous year, which Dickens described as an "ungallant attack upon the fair sex". 68, [1], [8 catalogue]pp.
