Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book details how to make your farmhouse more healthful for those who live within, focusing on the practical concerns of farmers' wives. Unlike the grand visions of a newly constructed, perfectly designed home, the author's methods are applicable to even the most modest farmhouse with limited resources, and without the need to hire skilled artisans. The main focus of this book is the practical, woman-centered work of maintaining a sanitary domestic environment, room by room. The author emphasizes the correlation between a clean, well-ventilated home and family health and well-being. She discusses germs and the importance of eliminating them from the home, details specific methods for cleaning and disinfecting each room in the house, and shares her own experiences with successfully applying her methods. The author also shares her strong belief in the restorative and mood-elevating benefits of beauty, and provides suggestions for making a farmhouse more attractive. These elements, when combined with her emphasis on cleanliness and fresh air, make this book a valuable resource for anyone seeking to enhance the health and happiness of their family and home. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. No Jacket. Illustrations by Helen Chamberlin Ilustrador. First Edition. Book will close its boards and text block. Interior unmarked, square and tight. Boards are pumpkin cloth illustrated in black. Vertical strips of material which we take to be white library tape run along inside edges of boards at hinges; this material has been tucked UNDER the endpapers; we thus conclude this is a "reinforced library binding," as made. No date later than 1935 copyright, below which appears the cryptic numeral "996." Only visible flaw is a pair of small dark stains which are becoming pinholes about 1/2-inch apart along rear of spine. Under magnification, these appear to be caused by the rusting of an interior staple, though book shows NO sign of ever having been damp. A lovely copy. By the author of "Young Prince Hubert." 304 pp. Reduced from $350. As with all our items priced higher than $90, this item will be shipped "signature required.".

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Illustrations by Helen Chamberlin Ilustrador. First Edition. Book will close its own text block but not its boards; thus, "very good." Boards are pumpkin colored cloth illustrated in black; a few lighter patches to rear board. Vertical strips of material which we take to be white library tape run along inside edges of boards at hinges; this material has been tucked UNDER the endpapers; we thus conclude this is a "reinforced library binding", as made. No date later than 1935 copyright, below which appears the cryptic numeral "873." Dated by the author "Xmas 1934" (making this a very early copy) and boldly signed to verso of FFE "Compliments of the Author / Sidney Baldwin." To title page, Uncle Raymond has then written to Cindy, Billy, & Tommy: "Ask Gran to tell you more about Sidney Baldwin, who writes a daily column for the Peoria Journal Star, which her father once owned." By the author of "Young Prince Hubert." Hard-to-find in signed condition. 304 pp. Reduced from $1,600. Inscribed by Author(s).

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Illustrations by Helen Chamberlin Ilustrador. First Edition. Book will close its boards and text block. Interior unmarked, square and tight. Fraying one inch to top of rear board. Boards are pumpkin cloth illustrated in black. Vertical strips of material which we take to be white library tape run along inside edges of boards at hinges; this material has been tucked UNDER the endpapers; we thus conclude this is a "reinforced library binding", as made. No date later than 1935 copyright, below which appears the cryptic numeral "996." Dated December 1944, inscribed & signed "Sidney Baldwin" to title page. The word "inscribed" -- for those in Westminster, Calif. and Derry, N.H. who apparently can't figure this out -- means the author has written words to the recipient in addition to her own signature. Those unfamiliar with the term "inscribed" are strongly urged to examine the scan (picture) of the inscribed page posted with this listing. Only visible flaw is the usual small dark stain which is becoming a pinhole along rear of spine. Under magnification, this appears to be caused by the rusting of an interior staple (as in other copies found), though book shows NO sign of ever having been damp. A clipping of the author's column from a March, 1951 edition of The Peoria Star laid in. A lovely copy. By the author of "Young Prince Hubert," rare when signed. 304 pp. Reduced from $1,000. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. Illustrations by Helen Chamberlin Ilustrador. 1st Edition. Whether this is Sidney Baldwin's BEST children's story -- a young shepherd boy invents a clever scheme to save his princess from kidnapping -- it's certainly her most elusive. In years of searching we have found only two copies -- both signed, weirdly enough. There is some rub/pockmarking to top edge of the front board and to the very bottoms of the board front edges; spine is moderately age-browned. NO dust jacket. Illustrations are B&W line drawings. No later dates than 1934 copyright, and the RP colophon is present to title page -- presumed first edition. Dated December 1944, inscribed "To Camilla," and signed "Sidney Baldwin" to the half-title page. Born in Peoria, Ill., Sidney Baldwin (1885-1978) began writing for the Peoria Star (founded by her father, Eugene F. Baldwin) in 1898. She later became a drama critic and wrote a column, "In My Opinion," for the Star. Baldwin also wrote for the Ladies' Home Journal, was a commentator on radio programs, and a regular columnist for the Boothbay (Maine) Register. She wrote several books, including two children's books set on an island off the coast of Maine -- Ben of old Monhegan and Marjorie of Monhegan -- as well as her best-known children's tales, "Princess Hildegarde" and "Young Prince Hubert." Her papers are now in the Maine Women Writers Collection, University of New England, Portland. 256 pp. Reduced from $1,280. Inscribed by Author(s).
