(ca 1910); 6 x 3; gray wraps, printed and decorated in black and tied with a decorative string; two-fold, card-stock, three-panel within; 18 color paint chips laid on; light wear to wraps; a few of the paint chips with slight cracks; in very good condition.The Frederick Crane Chemical Company, founded in 1884 in Springfield, New Jersey by Richard Hale, his son-in-law Frederick Crane, and Leonard Richards, was arguably the first business in the US to manufacture and sell lacquer for finishing metal and plated wares. A few years later, the company was renamed the Celluloid Zapon Company. Zapon was the name they gave their lacquer, because of the Japanese pronunciation for the then-common name for metal finishes called "Japans." The current booklet showed the various shades capable of being produced by mixing the colors. The enamels were said to be air drying, light, waterproof, and could be dipped, brushed, or sprayed.

Le missel est en celluloïd incrustée de nacre et d'argent, fermoir en celluloïd, tranches dorées. L'ouvrage est illustré de quelques gravures sous serpentes dont une en chromolithographie (en frontispice). Le porte-louis est en celluloïd incrusté d'argent uniquement avec un intérieur de moire, monture en métal. Cadeau de communion typique, celui-ci a été offert en 1893 à une communiante. Il a été peu utilisé et est dans un état quasi-parfait. Le seul défaut est la présence de quelques rousseurs dans l'ouvrage. Ensemble dans sa boîte d'origine en bois recouverte d'un papier imitant le cuir, avec des défauts sur le papier comme toujours mais toujours parfaitement solide. Superbe exemplaire, ensemble qu'on voit rarement aussi bien conservé.
