Orrego-Salas was a fellow Professor of Music at Indiana University as well as a noted Chilean composer and winner of the National Arts Award in Chile. The inscription reads, " Juan sir, your new music is my absolute favorite new music. I still grieve that I was never able to study with you, but my admiration for you both is a very steady thing- always on the rise ! Van Carl Van Buskirk Oct. 13, 1991 ".
