The artists transform abandoned industrial areas, former military zones, and neglected urban fringes into contemplative public spaces, often working with natural processes of growth, decay, and regeneration. Their projects frequently incorporate astronomical observation, ruins, and large-scale earthworks that invite viewers to experience slow temporal cycles rather than immediate events. The volume documents major works from the 1990s and 2000s, including permanent installations in the Netherlands and temporary projects abroad, accompanied by photographs, plans, and reflections on the role of art in reshaping collective memory and public territory. Through these interventions Observatorium investigates how places accumulate meaning over extended periods and how contemporary society can reconnect with longer rhythms of time and nature. The book is both a retrospective catalogue and a theoretical inquiry into landscape as a medium for cultural reflection.
