Barnes in 1962 (Barnes' inscription in this copy dated "Sept 12, 1962"), no limitation stated, after the self-published and numbered 500 copies of Limited Edition. No numbering in this copy; no gold leaf sample inserted at p. 19. Copyright page, states: "Copyright, 1962, by Richard H. Barnes"; "Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 62-17060";"Printed in the United States of America. / Butler and Ferrigno Lithographic Co., Inc." On last page of book, p. 37, the following appears: "This book was set in California type by Walter T. Armstrong, Inc. A limited edition of 500 copies was printed by Butler and Ferrigno Lithographing Company on Curtis Colophon paper. It was gilded by John F. Bussinger and bound in Macksan cloth supplied by William J. McLaughlin and Company. The photographs and binding were by Richard H. Barnes." The first essay, entitled, "I. BOOK EDGE GILDING," credits John F. Bussinger as author, pp. 1-18; second essay, entitled "GOLD LEAF History . . . . Manufacture", pp. 19-35, cites no author. No dustwrapper. Thin tips of wear ar spine corners and at gutter ends; intermittent rubbing wear along front cover right edge up from lower right corner for 2"and, similarly, along rear cover left edge up from lower left corner for 2"; tiny tips of wear at book corners. Inscribed in cursive on ffep: "Sept 12, 1962/ To Jim Krugh-- / One of my oldest and / best customers and friend. / With best wishes / Dick Barnes". Binding still tight, corners sharp.
