Horner was one of the enlisted men who didn't have a horse and had to walk 318 miles to the Montana Territory. He was still unable to obtain a mount to accompany the 7th Cavalr…y while many of his friends did. He never saw them again. He was also served during the entire Nez Perce Campaign.
