Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. The Decameron: The Modell of Wit, Mirth, Eloquence, and Conversation. Boccaccio, John; Hutton, Edward (translator and introduction). Published by Easton Press, Norwalk, 1980. Illustrated by Fritz Kredel. Red leather boards, banded spine with gilt spine titles, gilt designs to front and back, all edges… gilt, bronze silk endpapers with matching reading ribbon. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall; 536pp., illustrated with woodcuts; color portrait frontispiece of author. Very light ghost mark to pastedown from removed sticker and otherwise volume is in fine, unread condition. The Decameron was written after the Black Plague spread through Italy in 1348. The stories are told in a country villa outside the city of Florence by ten young noble men and women who are seeking to escape the ravages of the plague. Each of the ten tell one story each day for ten days resulting in the 100 stories of the Decameron. Most of the tales did not originate with Boccaccio; some of them were centuries old already in his time, but Boccaccio imbued them all with his distinctive style. The stories run the gamut from tragedy to comedy, from lewd to inspiring, and sometimes all of those at once. They also provide a detailed picture of daily life in fourteenth-century Italy. Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375) was an Italian writer and humanist, one of the founders of the Renaissance.

Añadir al carritoHardbound Clothbinding. Condición: Good. No Dust Jacket. 356 + pp. A rare, hard-to-find, out-of-print, scarce, true collectible gem! An excellent addition to any collection! Well bound copy with moderate external wear and use. Copy with crisp and bright pages. Spotlessly clean text. First few pages of text previously dog-eared.…'Sold at Retail by Macy's' stamped on half-title page. Minor fraying at bottom edge. No dust jacket. Synopsis: 'Amorous Fiammetta' is a landmark of early European literature, often cited as one of the first psychological novels ever written. Composed by the celebrated Italian author Giovanni Boccaccio, this evocative prose work shifts the traditional focus of courtly romance to the internal emotional landscape of its protagonist. Narrated from the first-person perspective of a noblewoman in Naples, the story chronicles Fiammetta's passionate affair with a young Florentine merchant named Panfilo and the profound despair that follows his departure.Through its intimate exploration of longing, jealousy, and abandonment, 'Amorous Fiammetta' offers a sophisticated portrayal of female desire and suffering. Boccaccio's mastery of narrative technique allows readers to experience the protagonist's shifting moods-from the heights of infatuation to the depths of suicidal ideation-making it a precursor to the modern novel of character. This work remains a vital contribution to Renaissance literature, reflecting the complexities of human emotion and the social constraints of the 14th century. Scholars and lovers of classic literature alike will find 'Amorous Fiammetta' to be a compelling study of the human heart, rich with classical allusions and timeless psychological insight. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Pictures of actual copy -not displayed here!- available upon request.
