Top edge gilt. 617 pp. The spines are darkened and the paper labels are scuffed, with parts missing. The boards of Vol. 1 are stained. Otherwise fine, in square, tight bindings. Titles to spines and front boards in gilt, top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed. The first edition of this work to be translated into English by the poet John Payne. The bindings are sound and tight. Some minor worm-hole damage to hinges. Minor wear and rubbing to extremities. Dust jackets are somewhat frayed at extremities, and have chips, tears, and some loss at head and foot of spines. Dust jackets are spine-sunned.
