David Laird. Charles Debrille Poston (1825 - 1902) is regarded as the "Father of Arizona" and was Arizona Territory's first Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives. This lecture, written as advice to students of the Univ of Arizona, is dedicated to the Regents, dated January 1, 1980 from Washington, D.C. This manuscript, however, lay undiscovered in the University's Library archives until 1953. The text embodies Poston's ideals for the University as well; he proposed attention to studies in agriculture, language, mathematics, construction of a large telescope to forward astronomy, and, a school for the blind. Poston's "Lecture on Religion" was written at the same time.
