Gloucester and Cheltenham have both alphabetical and classified trades sections, and Stroud has an alphabetical list. Numerous adverts for local firms. The date Jun 2 1956 has been stamped at the head of the title page, probably by a secretary when the book was received. A few minor hand-written alterations and corrections. Red cloth gilt. Thumb indexes for alphabetical trades section, classified trades section and streets section. The extensive streets section, naming the head of the household in every house in every street, is especially valuable. Red cloth gilt. Spine faded, covers a little marked, but a firm and tight copy. Contents are clean with no annotation. Published at three guineas, which was expensive at the time. This was the first of three Wolverhampton directories published by Barrett's, further editions following in 1960 and 1964. Scarce.…
