INTRODUCTION (English translation): The present compilation of data and interpretation of the development of the oil industry in the world and in Venezuela represents only a window to look at and observe its rhythm. We know well that each phase of the integrated oil industry (exploration, drilling, production, transport, manufacturing, and sales) represents in itself an activity of great proportions and scope that requires respectable capital investments, adequate experienced personnel, varied equipment and work tools, and an infinite number of materials that, combined with the research, science, technology, and art typical of the industry, present new problems and situations to be solved every day. All of this means that petroleum planning, organization, methods, and administration live in perennial and anticipated activity, looking towards the future. Therefore, the main reason for this condensed exposition is to interest you, future engineers, in the role that the oil industry is to play in the future of the country and its international projections. Each one of you will have to make your contribution, and hopefully it will be filled with the greatest success and professional recognition. ABOUT THE AUTHOR (English translation): Efraín E. Barberii, who since August 1966 has been serving as Production Manager, and recently was named Production Liaison Director of the C.V.P., was born in Tucupita, Delta Amacuro.
