A Very Good copy. A collection of Indigenous folk tales, myths, and legends as re-interpreted by editor Cornelius Mathews. In his Preface, Mathews writes that his intention for this work is to present his own interpretation of Indigenous folklore based on Henry R. Schoolcraft's interpretation of the original legends. Mathews likens these Indigenous folk tales to other folk tales such as Arabian Nights, Cinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood. Titles of the stories contained in this volume: "The Celestial Sisters," "The Boy Who Set a Snare for the Sun," "Strong Desire and the Red Sorcerer," "The Wonderful Exploits of Grasshopper," "The Two Jeebi," "Osseo, the Son of the Evening Star," "Gray Eagle and His Five Brothers," "The Toad-Woman," "The Origin of the Robin," "White Feather and the Six Giants," "Sheem, the Forsaken Boy," "The Magic Bundle," "The Red Swan," "The Man with His Leg Tied Up," "The Little Spirit or Boy-Man," "The Enchanted Moccasin," "He of the Little Shell," "Manabozho, the Mischief-Maker," "Leelinau, the Lost Daughter," "The Winter Spirit and His Visitor," "The Fire-Plume," "Weendigoes and the Bone-Dwarf," "The Bird Lover," "Bokwewa the Humpback," "The Crane That Crossed the River," and "Wunzii, the Father of Indian Corn.".

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. First Edition. The author's preface reads: "The core of this work is a study of current South African internal security legislation. This legislation is examined and appraised in the light of the doctrine of the Rule of Law as developed in the Western world. Part I of the ensuing study therefore consists of an analysis and redefinition of the Rule of Law. By emphasizing the connection between the doctrine and certain principles which seem to be implicit in legal regulation, I have attempted to construct a definition which is sufficiently precise and objective to make it attractive and relevant to lawyers. Part II is taken up by an exposition and critical study of the principal statutory laws relating to security. There is some comparison with United States security legislation and with relevant laws in one or two other jurisdictions. The comparison is limited to foreign laws which in my view demonstrate that there are other more subtle and (usually) more enlightened legislative responses to security threats than those adopted in this country. It follows that a full comparative treatment is neither intended nor attempted in Part II. Part III of the work is essentially an extended coda to the main section. This coda has several purposes. A security programme is a reflection of the political system of the country in which it operates. In an attempt to put the South African security laws into their political setting, the system of government and security programmes of con stitutional democracies in the West are outlined in the final part. This outline is followed by a delineation of the main features of government in South Africa and by a functional analysis of the security laws. The concluding chapter of Part III seeks to demonstrate that the social situation in the country does not render institutions like the Rule of Law inappropriate or irrelevant. Being outside the normal compass of legal research, much of the material in Part III is necessarily tentative and exploratory ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 318 pages - list of Apartheid Acts as an annexure and an index - previous owner's stamp on inside cover reads "Julius Lewin, 3 Rannoch Road, Forest Town, Johannesburg, 2001" - next owner's name inked next to that Annemarie Nunnerley - ------------------ Orders over $100.00 are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
