Tipped to the front pastedown is a Autograph Note Signed, in 1929, to Mrs. Barnett from Margaret C. Splawn, responding to Barnett's request for a copy of this book. "It is to present the Indian side of the War of 1855-8 that the writer has undertaken this work. He has spent many years in gathering stories and statements as to why they fought and how they fought, descriptions of their battles, and names of the killed and tounded. The task was difficult since superstition keeps the red man from talking to the white man on such subjects. . that I have always treated them right, gained me their confidence --Preface." Splawn was involved with every aspect of the frontier. Some chapters tell of the cattle and cowboys, gold mining, British Columbia, and much more. With Plates. Splawn was President of the Washington Live Stock Association and the Cascade International Live Stock Association, and ran unsuccessfully to be Governor of Washington State.
