Hardcover. Condición: Good. 1888 oversize hardcover with all edges gilt early printing (not a first). Staining on cover and fraying on edges, corners bumped, owner's label on front pastedown, surface tear on ffep, four pages are a little loose, half inch tear on frontispiece, else text clean, binding tight. Oversize book extra shipping charges will apply, especially for international and priority orders as this will not fit into a flat rate envelope. Language: eng.

Unpaged - 16 leaves (i.e. 32 pages). Hardcover: H 20.25cm x L 16.5cm. Well soiled white rigid boards with beveled edges; pictorial front board; light brown cloth spine. Gilt text block edges; some foxing and light soiling to leaves. Stitched binding slightly shaken with several leaves pulled but still holding. A good+ copy. Biographical essay regarding Ray Palmer on page 5 does not mention his passing so presumably this edition was still issued prior to his 1887 death. Pages 7-9 reproduce Palmer's handwritten stanzas in facsimile. Remaining leaves features song's lyrics (no musical score) amongst b/w illustrations.

Condición: Good. Steel engraving. 28 x 19 cm (sheet). With the blindstamp of Teachers College, Bryson Library, New York, in upper right sheet corner. With facsimile signature. Very Good, sheet lightly toned.

First Edition. Title continues :" Tire du Cabinet de Monsieur le Chevalier de de la Roque." This is the original early 18th century engraving, hand coloured and in an old walnut frame. Print is in very good condition with no discernable damage to picture area. There are some light spots in title text at the bottom. The lady in the centre of the picture is about to go hunting and is saying her goodbyes ( les adieux ) to her little boy being held up by her nanny. The horses are finely engraved. There is a black servant, antoher servant with a falcon, and another with a gun. The original painting, by the famous Golden Age Dutch painter Wouwermans, was owned by the famous art patron Chevalier de la Roque. The engraver Laurent was born Andrew Lawrence in London in 1708, the son of the apothecary to Queen Anne. After losing his fortune he went to Paris where he built a reputation as a fine engraver. He died there in 1747 and was buried in a heretic's grave. Paperback. No dj.
