Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: New. As she lay in hospital recuperating from a car crash, Cambridge graduate Eileen Alexander wrote the first of her 1,400 letters to Gershon Ellenbogen - the driver of the car she had been travelling in, and her future husband. An intelligent and frank expression of the writer's opinions, and how she was affected by the war, the correspondence also offers 'a description of love as it unfolds'.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very good. First English Language Edition. First English Language Edition. Hardcover. A beautifully presented bouquet of floral myths and legends, this 1908 first English language edition is illustrated in a romantic color frontispiece by Arts and Crafts giant Walter Crane (18451915), with Art Nouveau borders and decorations throughout and in a publisher's cloth binding designed by Glasgow Girl Jessie M. King (18751949). This is the first book in a series that would later bloom into four volumes and gathers together the legendary origins of orange blossoms, morning glories, Scottish heather, daisies, forget-me-nots, roses, gardenias, myrtle blossoms, and edelweiss, often involving Roman gods and goddesses, fairy queens, magicians, and other figures from Norse, French, and Swiss folklore. These lush and whimsical flower legends are the work of Paolo Mantegazza (18311910), an Italian neurologist, anthropologist, proponent of experimental research with coca leaves, and writer of romantic and futuristic fiction. 7 1/2" X 5". 152pp. Binding designed by Jessie M. King. Bound in woven cream cloth over boards, with Art Nouveau floral decorations stamped in gilt to upper board and spine lettered in kind. Moderate wear to binding, with stain to bottom of upper board, sunning to spine, and soiling to cloth. Top edge gilt. Foxing to fore-edge. Gift inscription to front free endpaper and verso, dated January 1928. Hinges a touch tender; binding remains quite firm and sound. Toning and foxing to endpapers; pages are clean and unmarked. Illustrated in a color frontispiece by Walter Crane and decorative borders to every page by Jessie M. King, the latter uncredited (this would have been in the first year or so of her 17-year career illustrating for Edinburgh publisher T. N. Foulis).
